Jeff – Wine Specialist, Sherman Oaks
Cru GSM reminds me of why I originally loved Paso Robles… There’s a lot of bright fruit in Paso wines, which I love when it’s opening up Rhone varietals, which can sometimes be quite dense and intense.
I immediately get rich black and red berries on the nose. On the palate, I get cherries and baking spices up front, a bit of strawberry-like tartness and hard-candy (think Jolly Rancher) on the tongue, a little mace, crust even… It’s almost like a restrained cherry pie in a glass. Tannins and acid are both restrained, though in a way that makes the wine easy to enjoy and not dull or lifeless.
It’s medium-light bodied, juicy, and a joy to drink… and a perfect weight as we head into cooler fall weather.
